This year, Fire Prevention Week falls on Oct. 9 - 15. The goal of National Fire Prevention Week is to raise fire safety awareness and help ensure your home and family is protected. In 1922, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) named the second week of October National Fire Prevention Week in commemoration of the 1871 Great Chicago Fire. Today, we celebrate National Fire Prevention Week and Month by raising fire safety awareness and educating families, students and communities across the United States

The NFPA's 2022 campaign for Fire Safety Month is "Fire Won't Wait, Plan Your Escape." At ProTech Security we are proud to support their mission & this year's theme.

DID YOU KNOW?

1. 3 of every 5 home fire deaths resulted from fires with no working smoke alarms

2. Whether you own a home or business or are just renting, it is always best to be prepared for the potential threat of a fire and have a plan. The new fire and life safety code for residential dwellings requires smoke detectors in all sleeping rooms and hallways.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, grills cause 10,200 house fires each year. While grilling, it is very important to keep the grill hot while it is in use, but not TOO hot! If you are using a propane grill, be sure to check your gas tank hose for leaks once a year by applying soapy water- if you see bubbles, your grill needs to be serviced to prevent the threat of a fire. If you are using a charcoal grill, never apply fluid to a grill that is already lit. Also be sure to let your coals cool overnight before disposing of them. Please never leave your grill unattended. Keeping children and pets away from it can help prevent any further risks of a fire accident.

Most homes today have interconnected hardwired smoke detectors. ProTech Security, Inc. offers a device known as a 2GIG FireFighter. Only one 2GIG FireFighter is needed to monitor ALL smoke detectors within your home.

It is also imperative that you inspect your home’s security and safety devices every few months, to ensure they are working properly when you need them to. Test smoke detectors, CO2 Detectors, Fire Extinguishers, Security Alarms and clean off any camera lenses. Also be sure to NEVER test smoke detectors with actual flames.

Keep your home and family safe by being prepared for a fire with ProTech Security, Inc.
